Shifter Creaking, both in and out of gear.

Post by MrMazda92 »

Whenever I move my shifter, it creaks like a rusty door hinge. Annoying at best, but what might be the worst?

Thanks.

It's probably the bushings. Worst case is it could be the shifter bracket and your shifter might fall through the floor any time now <---- not as likely lol.

I'd hope it isn't the bushings. They're corksport bronzoil, less than a few months old and I re-adjusted them less than a week ago. Had to replace the nut, as I was too stupid to lock it down.

Oh okay, shoulda said so! I was assuming it was stock. Would it have hurt ya to say that upfront? lol

Anyways, you have new 3rd link bushings too or just shifter? I'd take off the dash above the shifter and inspect the pivot point, maybe greasing it up can get rid of that squeak.

Haha sorry, I spaced again! I need to be more thorough when I'm describing stuff, I do that way too often.

I did just the linkage bushings, front and rear. I'm almost 100% positive it is coming from the shifter end of the linkage. It's very loud, which makes me think it IS the pivot point. I wouldn't hear it nearly as clearly if it were under the car.

Also, it only does it when I've been driving a while, or immediately after driving hard. It never does it when the car has been sitting for a while.

I'll pull the console and boot off again, I didn't want to because of how in-depth my last cleaning job was! I literally spent over 30 minutes just CLEANING underneath. I don't like putting stuff back together when it's filthy.

I'll take pictures!(I won't forget to detail any odd occurrences either)

Thanks Night!
