a few bp swap questions

Post by SpatialTerror »

ok so today i got my hands on a bp in excellent condition. now im gonna take tomorrow and the next day to drop it in and make sure it runs ok.
so eventually im gonna go megasquirt on it.
but right now i cant find a protege ecu.
so my first question is can i use the ecu off of my 1.6sohc just to test the motor.
and another question is i need to find good rings and rod barings. so could i get a few links for those?
and i am going to get a 6puck racing clutch for it. i know most of whats on eaby is crap but are the clutches good for racing?
thats all for now.
im sure ill have more tomorrow.

From what I've heard I wouldn't get a clutch kit from eBay.

This is what I'm going for with my BP:

http://www.clutchcityonline.com/product ... 263H.shtml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Good for Daily driving, but still has that grab for racing.

As for rings/rod bearing, try http://importperformanceparts.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

not sure if Corksport has 'em but they are good with rods and stuff as well.

side note:
Mi|<e has a spec in his high hp bp.. and I have one in my explosive b6. They are great clutches... with all grip and no chatter. You get what you pay for, and SPEC is not cheap.

Spec is pretty nice, it grips like pedobear and engages like JLP.

awsome. i got the freeze plug out. it was easy and i made 20 bucks on a bet bout it too.
my brother bet i would have to pull the head. and i bet the waterpump.
now im just waiting on a seal& gasket kit for my car.
ill take some pics 2night.
i think b4 i build the motor. im gonna clean it up and drive it to wyotech with me.
so im going to go talk to a friend about using his sandblaster to clean up my head, valves, rods, and pistons.
and. another question i have. i have a goal for 400 to 500hp. will i need to bore and sleeve my motor or not.
a guy that works at a machine shop told me that sense my block is cast i wont need to.
i figured you guys would know better than them

Do not sandblast internal engine parts.

This means valves, rods, pistons etc

If you sandblast the outside of your head make sure
you get all the sand particles out with a varsol bath
or similar.

well the car the motor is going into is a 92mx. so its a sohc ecu. but for a little update i guess. the motor is out of the machine shop. i am gonna be running exactly 10:1 compression with about 14lbs of boost. i just got out of wyotech. and im about to go back for performance power trains so i can learn how to tune. i decided to go with a garret turbo not sure about trans and stuff yet. but after seeing the cosworth escort i wanna do something like that. just a slow but sure process
