Re: Is this OBDI or OBDII???
The title of the listing says it's for a 94
The product description says it was pulled from a 95
94 and 95 were 1.6 DOHC
It's ODB-II
I have and ODB-I ECU from my 92 RS (Manual) if you need one...

4 plugs usually means OBD2. I googled the pn and got a pile of off shore, screwed up written web sits. Check with Mazda for the correct pn.

Re: Is this OBDI or OBDII???
The OBD was taken up for emissions controls. I'm not sure how well it translated to Europe, but I'd think they'd have the same setup on them. I mean why would Mazda put different setups if it required all those extra different parts.
The quickest way to tell would be to find the Diagnostics connector..
This is and OBD2 connector... the OBD-I is .. simpler
Also, OBD2 were required to be mounted within 2 feet of the driver. Unless the company filed for an exemption.
***edit***
Here's the OBD-I connector for my car (under my hood, behind my battery)
And a picture of the ECU connectors for my (pre-BP) B6 5speed ECU.
The Automatic had 3 connectors, one was for the transmission.

Re: Is this OBDI or OBDII???
Your post implies that 1.6 DOHC's were all OBD-II, this isn't true. In North America, '96 and some '95's were OBD-II. And there is speculation that European models never went to OBD-II.Demonic1 wrote:The title of the listing says it's for a 94

Yeah I guess it could be read that way.
Apologies.
Best way is to just hunt down the connector on your car...

Re: Is this OBDI or OBDII???
If it is true that all MX-3s were built in Japan, I find it hard to believe that they would buildl some OBD2 cars for north america and other places, and not just make them all OBD2 when the switch started. I mean I don't know that they did or didn't, it just seems like that would be a costly and organizationally challenging thing to do.

Re: Is this OBDI or OBDII???
Not specifically. The standard stated the OBD-II connector was to be placed within 2 feet of the drivers position. But if the manufacturer filed for an exception they could put it anywhere.96chris wrote:so if its under your hood behind your battery its an OBDI? not OBDII?
I've never seen an OBD-II connector or its placement on an MX-3. But it is a standardized connector (see top photo in my earlier post). If you have that connector, it's OBD-II. If you have the second connector like me (located behind your battery) it's OBD-I.

Re: Is this OBDI or OBDII???
the OBDII connector MUST be easy to get to... never hidden, unless clearly noted on the cover.

Re: Is this OBDI or OBDII???
Not to be cheeky. But as in your post above, this post implies something that is not true. The OBD-II MX-3's have the OBD-II port in the cabin, as well as the diagnostic connector under the hood. Therefore, existence of the diagnostic connector does not mean OBD-IDemonic1 wrote:I've never seen an OBD-II connector or its placement on an MX-3.
