1992 Tranny cost-rebuild

Post by sherry »

Hello everyone I am getting my 1992 mx3 tranny rebuilt. Why is it so HARD to rebuild? The mechanic has took 2 weeks to fix it,now he says he had to order parts and this is the hardest job with many problems. He had to take it apart and start over 2 times. Is 1,000 about the right price to rebuild? He claims he is doing it cheap.I love my mx3,any one know about rebuilt trannys.1992 automactic.

I have a 92 auto GS.....when I got it i had to have the tranny rebuilt. If he does it right, $1000 is a good price. Make sure you get a warranty on it though. I took mine back 3 times, before the warranty was up, to get it fixed again.

It cost me $400 to swap in a new transmission which cost $200 ($600 total). The mechanic I dealt with said it would be cheaper to just throw in another transmission than changing out some of the gears. I suggest checking into swapping in another transmission, unless you feel more comfortable with a rebuilt one (which will probably last longer) or if you're rebuilding it with better gears and parts. Justin, did he swap in a manual instead of an auto? Or were they both standards? Or both autos?

I got a used MX-6 tranny for ~300USD last year, and that was on the high end as far as prices go.
www.u-r-g.com

Hey David.. how are the ratios with the MX-6 tranny - is it in your MX-3... I have a KL-ZE and find im ripping through the MX-3 gears way too quick.. I'm don 60 MPH and I''m in 3rd shifting like a mofo! I was thinkin about puttin' the MX-6 tranny in for a broader gearing.. any thoughts?
