Summer project... :D

Post by SteeleMX3 »

alright, so i just picked up an MX3 this last august (awesomly excited to have her btw) and she has been untouched since 1992. I wanna give her a revamping this spring/summer/fall but I'm new to the whole DIY car scene and I'm wondering what you guys think are the best things to do first and foremost to the beast???

p.s. ZE engine swap is coming soon so thats outta the way...hopefully

WEll, there have been many threads about this, and it's a matter of opinion. You should read through them, and decide. However, my $.02 is; Stay away from the first mistakes alot of people make, such as dropping a bunch of $$ on auto store bling. Everyone I've read about has regretted it. Personally, I'd get into suspension/ handling mods since you're already doing the ZE swap.

haha yah i was thinking about a sub or maybe some nice speakers at the most but audio was definately not on my tp 10 list...thanks for that though! suspension/handling sounds awesome but galactically complicated, any hope for a 4/10 self-made mechanic to do it??

For sure! Alot of guys and girls on here learned how to work on cars with their MX-3s. There are alot of write-ups, and info on here to do everything, and if you can't find it in the search, someone will know how to do what you want. Whatever tools you don't have can be rented.

+1

Most of my mechanical know-how has come from this forum - some very talented people here!

PS, out of any of the car's i've worked on, the MX3 is by far the simplest, and easiest to learn mechanics on, IMO

and remember there's support in calgary, like....from me! (edit: i won't be back from japan till may XD)
although i'm not super skilled at stuff, it's nice to have a 3rd hand once and a while =D
my suggestion for tune up would be, suspension (springs & struts, strut bars) and engine like you mentioned.

most important thing, make it to the MX-west meet where we drive to kelowna! (its AMAZING fun)

P.S. stay away from rare OEM parts or rare items for the MX-3, you don't need any of that stuff, it'll be fine at my house =D

i went with a 4cyl b6 DOHC and stock ride height, basicly no mod's at all, it was really rough but i kept up (or they slowed down enough for me XD)

if i were you i would make my best effort not the miss the kelowna trip, i don't remember the last time i had that much fun, and i'm in taiwan right now going BACK to japan soon. Yeah, it was fun
