Help with parts for servicing of driveshaft

Post by Mastiff »

Hi!
My problem is this: The right driveshaft on my wife's 93 MX-3 is ticking like crazy when I turn sharply, and when I asked Mazda here (I live in a small town in the southern part of Norway)they told me that I had to change the full shaft, I couldn't get the part that looks like an X (I have no idea what that's called in english...). And that driveshaft will set me back about 900 dollars! American dollars! I find that kind of crazy since the broken part costs about 30 dollars... Then I saw an ad for a used MX-3 here with "serviced driveshafts", or something like that. It really sounded like something COULD in fact be done instead of making Mazda very happy by buying a new one.
Could anybody here please tell me where I can get parts for that service? Or do you have any other good ideas so I can save a little money?
Thank you very much in advance!

Thanks for the answer, and holy macaroni!
Are you talking about the prices at a Mazda dealership or aftermarket parts? I would love an address for a shop that you think might be willing to send to Norway. And thanks again!
