Re: whats better?
well can you swap the 4 cylinder mx6 engine into the mx3 rs? or does that not work?
also ive heard that all mazda v6s are junk and the 4 cylinders are way better for turboing.
Is that true?

Re: whats better?
Mx6 4 cyl engine is an F series motor. Honestly the crappiest motors Mazda has made yet. They just never quite sound right...
The Kl engines, on the other hand... The K8 has to be the smoothest V6 they've made. The ZE is most liklely the best engine of the K's, being a very agressive N/A motor. The DE handles boost like a crazy mother.
So, no, the K engines AREN'T crap. Not to mention they're all capable of 300k+ kms. Although, usually we get to them before that
The B series motors once again are some of the most robust motors I've seen. B6/5/3 seem to never die. have you ever heard of a 323 with a dead motor? The BP takes 12PSI on a good tune on stock internals. B6 was also a turbo platform. B motors (except BP) were all slightly underpowered, though.
...they were all good.
The thing with Turbo is that the BPT and the B6T are pre existing turbo forms of the motors, so obviously it will be easier.
Meanwhile. The v6 engine bay is fairly crammed and fitting a turbo requries some doing.

Re: whats better?
FE3's aren't crap, one of the only 10 sec mx3's uses an FE3 to achieve it's power. They're hardy little engines. 4 bangers will never sound like a V6, but they're a lot smaller and lighter.
Re: whats better?
haha yea the 4 cylinders are good but they can only go so far before they brake. the v6 can handle qite a bit more. and the fe3s well the amount of em ive seen going around town in probe/mx6s all run really badly even after they wer rebuilt. buts it to bad a cmallblock 350 wont fit in an mx3 that would be too amazing. hmm maybe into a miata........onlytrueromeo wrote:FE3's aren't crap, one of the only 10 sec mx3's uses an FE3 to achieve it's power. Re: whats better?
What makes you think putting a small block into an MX-3 or a Miata would be amazing? It's just a heavy, big, underpowered piece of cr@p.TMP39 wrote: buts it to bad a cmallblock 350 wont fit in an mx3 that would be too amazing. hmm maybe into a miata........

Re: whats better?
haha no its not. yea and its no all that heavy and considering the power it can put out to get a 4000lb car moving 10second inthe quarter mile without a turbo or supercharger, if someone took something like that and made one into n mx3 or miata would be amazing. and besides it would be different.Inodoro Pereyra wrote:What makes you think putting a small block into an MX-3 or a Miata would be amazing? Re: whats better?
I guess we have different definitions for "amazing".TMP39 wrote: haha no its not. yea and its no all that heavy and considering the power it can put out to get a 4000lb car moving 10second inthe quarter mile without a turbo or supercharger, if someone took something like that and made one into n mx3 or miata would be amazing. and besides it would be different.
I also think you have your facts confused. The "Chevy 350 small block" was an IRON BLOCK V8, manufactured by Chevrolet since 1967. That engine delivered a maximum power of 370 HP and 380 ft/lbs, in 1970, using LEADED GAS.
Meanwhile, right now, BMW makes the S65, which is a 4.0 L (244 cu. in., that is, 2/3 the displacement of the SB), and produces 309 HP and 295 ft/lbs on UNLEADED GAS. And it's an all aluminum engine, and it weighs little more than 200 Kgs.
You can read more about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_S65
Or, if you want REAL power, you can go for the 5.0 L (still 700 cc smaller than the SB) S85 V 10 engine, which develops 507 HP, and 384 ft/lbs., also on unleaded, and also an all aluminum engine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_S85
Of course you can argue that you can modify the SB. The truth is you can modify ANY engine. But the SB will always be old technology, no matter how much money you throw at it. Besides that, what makes the MX-3 special is its HANDLING, and hanging that behemoth in the front will most certainly compromise that.
Not to mention that a car modified that way would not be street legal, at least in the U.S.

yea that 265 is a really nice engine, my buddy that works in teh machine shop had one in not to long ago, think it was of a faulty head casting or something. not sure exactly.
but im not trying to make an arguement out of this but its just what i prefer.

Re: whats better?
Oh, believe me, it wasn't my intention to start an argument. Maybe I came out too strong...sorry.
I just had a few bad experiences with American cars, and, as you may have guessed, I'm not so fond of them.
About the legality, as far as I know, you can only replace an engine for one of the same make, and same year or younger than the original. Which is a problem, because I've been dreaming with buying a new Camaro and putting an S85 in it for some time...
But hey, I can still dream...can't I?

Re: whats better?
Chevy v8's are great motors, in my opinion the heavy cast iron engines you talk about can handle a hell of a beating. With aluminum when they overheat they its not to hard warp the cylinders(I know people here actually take care of their stuff but most of the world doesan't), you have to be trying to destroy a cast iron engine. With the chevy small block if you put it in a Datsun Z car (not the 280 zx or after) it will run 12's on all motor. I also think their the easiest motor to work on, it says something about a good design when its been essentially the same motor since the 50's until the present.
