92 MX-3 Problems

Post by Matthew Kreager »

Thanks to every ones interactions I was able to fix a few problems I was having with my 92 MX3 6cyl. Now it seems I have 2 more that I could really use some help with.
Here they are;
1. When I come to a stop, It seems that my idle wants to go up 500rpm causing the car to surge forward. This doesn't happen all the time or whether the car is hot or cold. Could this be an Idle sensor?
2. While driving down the road my automatic trans. shifts to second gear and the hold light on the dash starts flashing. I know I'm not hitting the hold button on the shifter so the light should stay off. I'm at a total loss on this one.
Thanks for all your help.
Matthew
[ January 21, 2002: Message edited by: Kreager ]

Does the car actually go into hold mode or just the light comes on?

I'm no expert but it sounds like you are having a transmission problem or the start of one. Maybe you should take it in and have it checked out by an expert. The two items you are describing sound related to each other. If you said the RPMs were dropping below 500RPM when you come to a stop then it can be adjusted by the idle screw but you said they were going up so this suggests it could be related to your second problem. check transmission fluid, it may be low which might (long shot here) cause these probs. :roll:

Thanks guys. I'm going to start with a tranny flush and filter change. Also I'm doing a tune up as well as cleaning the throttle body. Hopefully this will help.
Kreager
