Touch Up Painting Using Basecoat/Clear Coat in Spray Cans

Hey guys,

I had a couple scratches on my car and just today my car slid from one jack stand and I bent the underside of my passenger fender. I think I can straighten it out though. Plus, I wanted to repair my lip and paint it. I was thinking since I still have some original base coat/clear coat from when we painted my car, maybe I could put it into one of those spray cans I have seen and spray it like that. Does anyone have any experience with this? How much would I have to dilute the paint? What kind of a result can I expect?

Be careful here.
you must know what the solvent base is in both your paint and what is in the spray bomb. You may want to see if you can just order a bomb or 2 instead of cutting your stuff. Or get a proper gun.

There is a solvent in the spray can? I though you just put your own paint in and it "pushes it out" so to speak. Sorry if I sound extremely ignorant. I seriously never had experience with this. I just saw this spray can thing in a store.

does it have a clear glass hopper that you screw on?
If that is the one we are talking about, i would not use it. They suck.

it's just very poor quality.
You also must read what type of paint it is suitable for. I believe those are for household latex.. not even close to automotive.

just take your paint code to your local paint supplier and they will put it in a spray can for you, should cost 30-40$

Yes there is propellant and solvent in rattle cans. We use those at work and make our own cans. Those are not suitable for automotive applications. However there is other rattle cans that have the right solvent to work with auto paint.
