Antifreeze problem

I have noticed that my antifreeze keeps disappearing, it does not lick so it probably burning in the engine. Does it effects performance of the car, I mean can you notice it in any way and how expensive and urgent is that? Can I live it for know?

Re: Antifreeze problem
I could be a number of things causing coolant loss including broken gaskets within the engine. Mine was losing coolant too and it took me a while to track down the leak. It was leaking onto the engine block and evaporating before it got to the ground, only when the car was cold did I manage to track the leak and it did not leak everytime. Anways here's what I found on mine and you could look for the same thing;
Find your thermostat housing, below distributor and back some, and see the metal pipe that goes into it from the bottom of the radiator. Check below the thermostat housing to see if there is any coolant there on the little shelf of the block. My metal pipe thingy was broken not on the outside but inside the thermo housing and it had corroded past the rubbergasket ring causing it to leak.
Just keep the coolant tank full and you should be ok for the time but I would find the problem so I would not have to worry about the car overheating.
Maybe this will help ya find your problem
Re: Antifreeze problem
Thanks for reply I will check it strange that the car does not overhit even with an empty container a drove for a week without any coolant, but radiatoe was full. I hop I dont have a problem whith an engine. What the oil looks like when an antifreez in it?

Re: Antifreeze problem
MX3new, If you do have coolant in your oil your oil will have a creamy colour to it, much like "puss" and yes, it will smell like s---. I once drove from Toronto to Londo with blown rad hose, I did not notice until I stropped for gas in Woodstock that's when I heard the distinctive hissing sound, I checked the hose saw the split but was not able to fix it right away so i proceeding on my way home where I had an extra upper rad hose, actually took it off my Jetta but I tell you I am surprised that the car did not once overheat, and I was pushing it, i kept the speed up to 210 km/h the whole distance from Toronto to London.
