Koni insert + GC compatible?

Post by sk8erdude802 »

Ok so Ive been looking at getting some GC coilovers cause I really hate being as low as my carwas with Koni inserts and H&R springs at times but at other times I loved it. I was reading through some sites that sell them for around $400 and that doesnt sound to bad and then I read you have to fit them to the stock struts or a set of tokicos. Can I put them on the koni inserts ive got or am I going to have to get some new struts?

It works.
Koni`s use stock strut housing, so no problems.

You might want to do the install properly though.

Luc St. Pierre had a page with how they _should_ be installed for the best performance/safety. But seems it`s not online anymore.

Ah, found it :=)

The pics work if you click the links where they should be.

Well Well...now if I could only weld...if I could weld Id probably build alot of cool things....a bagged truck being one of them. wonder how bad it would be to not weld them or how much to have them welded. Ill have to start looking around for someone around town that can do the job.

You do not have to weld them. Most people don't. But as for all coil over sleev kits. if you cut the perch off the strut and weld them to it you will be able to lowr about another inch. It also makes the install alot cleaner. GC's with a nice springrate will ride very nice on Koni inserts.

You dont weld the sleeve to anything.
You weld the metal rings you need to get machined, to the strut.

The pics show how it works.

I`ve done it this way myself, and dont regret it at all.
Looks more professional not having the spring perch for stock springs.

Sweet. I really liked the way they looked welded in there. I figured it would look kinda goofy with the stock sprint seating in there.
