Post by NBishop »

What are the diffent kind of exhaust? (Ex catback) amd what is the difference between them all? Oh and which would serve the best purpose, cold air intake or new pulleys? X-mas is coming up and i just looking for some suggestions. thanks

Cat-Back exhaust is from the catalictic converter back. So you would be replacing the pipe and the muffler. Some people just get a high flow muffler. The Cat-Back exhaust definatly increases more HP because most people replace stock pipe with 2.25' or 2.5" pipe for better flow.
Personally, I would go with the pulleys.

Going to 2.25 piping on a K8, you will lose low end power. Going to 2.5, you will lose even more low end power. Remember definite integrals from calculus? Yeah, its not peak hp, but the Integral from 0 to 7000 of the hp curve equation.

Sorry about that, I'm just relaying what I have read from posts on here.

so dave, you are saying that u loose low end power with 2.25 catback piping. do u gain more high end power with that setup? did the overall upgrade from stock exhaust to 2.25 Pacesetter catback system even worth something performance wise? just wanna know your thoughts on it?
thanks

2.0" would be the best compromise for the 1.8L v-6. Slightly larger than stock allows for better flow, and the reduction in back pressure, but still allows good exhaust gas velocity.
I think Dave would agree with me here. Not until you do something drastic, like cams, bringing the redline up to 9000, headwork, or FI would you need to go any bigger than 2.0" exhaust piping.

yes i believe dave would agree with you, 2.25 is 2 big for a 1.8 but if ur thinkin about running a 2.5 in the near future u might wanna go with 2.25 or 2.5.
