94 Dohc - BP Swap ...

Post by Romeo »

Okay Ive been reading everything everyone has posted about the swap .

and as far as it sounds im doing pretty good ..

I havn't started anything yet .. but seeing as i have a broken leg and alot of free time ahead of me I can get the swap rolling ..

soo I have a 91-96 Ford Escort GT .. ( I cant remember the year right now)
Little problem tho .. I bought the car 3 years ago decieded to try it out first before i swapped it into the mx .. anyways to make a long story short it was in an accident .. Engine wasnt hurt but the drivers wheel and axels were ripped out .. Now i know there are two EGT's at my local junkyard so hopefully the trany wasnt hurt and i can get the axels from the cars out there. As far as i know thats all i should be worrying about.. correct me if im wrong tho?

And As for Any other issues i might have with swapping a bp into a 94 mx I do have a 92 Sohc Mx-3 sitting in my driveway as a parts car .. so if i could get any help with what i need to be taking off of that car it would be much appreciated .. (ex. Maybe, Gauge cluster? , Ecu? I'm not sure . help would be great tho )

Thanks again for any help ..

Regards,,

Damn you really have it made. Your older Mx-3 if usable would actually be Ideal, there is an issue or two going from a car with airbags to one without. Unless your EGT has them, then ignore that comment.

The biggest thing is just getting the parts together, but you should have everything you need to make it super easy including the wiring harness for the engine. You have got it made.

Hey Thanks for the comment..
The escort does have airbags .. well it did ,, they were deployed in the accident .. i'm not sure if this will affect anything?
but what would be the difference if the car had airbags or not?

No it just means your ECU will be aware there is an airbag system and not through an error code.

I just found a BP from a 92 Ford Escort GT at the wreckers and wanted to pick it up.. Good price. $300 and only 88k on the engine. compression tested good 190 across all.

I have a 92 MX-3 SOHC which i just recently blew the head gasket on (or cracked head/cracked block) not sure yet. But instead of spending a day replacing the head gasket and hope it fixes the problem I just decided its time to do a complete BP swap.

So i guess my question is, While i am at the wreckers, what else do i need to pick up. Can i use my MX-3 ECU, starter, alternator on it. Ive read through the guides but i think there is some confusion between what is the bare minimum nessessary components and what is just nice to swap in while your at it. I have a minimum of cache to invest in this car.. and really just need to get it back on the road as soon as possible because taking the bus suck!

I have literally replaced most of the components in the engine bay except the engine within the last year. So again, whats the bare mininum of components needed?
