I am pretty sure the srt4 has a resonator and no mufflers. Thats what I have heard.

If you have the 4cycl, then go for a 1991-1993 protege LX 1.8L oem muffler, and get them to hide it as high as it will go, then get a nice tip on the end. Only cost me $120 cash. :D

The canister is not even that bad, it kinda depends whats infront of it, do you still have all stock piping? Consider putting in a resonator if you want to quiet it down.

do NOT cut off your stock resonator, you will regret it.

I did, and ended up putting a second muffler (baffled) in front of my other one to quiet the exhaust.

get a vibrant muffler at http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com

They have pretty sweet oval can mufflers.

Hey, I feel ya, I had some glass packs on a saturn that burnt out and gave it that buzzing sound, I'm looking for the same affect, I ended up getting a fireball muffler off ebay, it has one of those silencers, which is a joke because if you take it off the silencer isn't much smaller than the actual outlet of the muffler. It seems like it might have a lot of packing in it to quiet that buzzing, I'll let you know how it goes after I get it installed. it was only 10 bucks and about 20 or 30 shipping

you might also try cold air and doing a bigger exhaust pipe from the cat back, narrow pipe is kind of the culprit of that nasty bumble bee buzz. The bigger the pipe the deeper the growl. I wouldn't go over 2.5 inch though
