GS power dimming

Post by vasilaar »

hey, i haven't actually run into this problem yet, (because my gs is on blocks), however i've had this problem with previous cars.

i will be installing a decent sized stereo,

most likely a pair of 12's probably JL w3v2 (keep it simple)

and i'll deffinatly be upgrading the speakers, and possible adding another set where i can fit them.

i'll be running 2, maybe 3 amps.

i don't think the amps will pull more than 80 amps

but i'll also be putting on a set of aftermarket foglights

and maybe more electrical drain, but i can't think of anything else rite now.

so.... will the stock ALT support this setup?

i'm assuming not.

i am already anticipating installing a second battery and a CAP
(as i have done this in both my old sunfire and saturn)

but are there any upgrades that can be done, with either a BEEFIER ALT, or is there an easy way to install another one?

has anyone done anything like this?

thanx

You can upgrade to a Millenia ALT, its 120A over the 90A stock.

Im running 2 amps in my RS off of a 70A Alt and a 1 Farad cap, with no problems.

thanx... i'll probably try to get a beefcake cap. i usually run a 1 farad, plus an extra battery, but i find that its still not enough, mind u i do listen to my music loud for extended time periods, but meh. i think i'm gunna go with the bigger ALT when i get the chance.

thanx again

Im running two amps and two 12's on the stock GS. No dimming yet and I crank it pretty hard most of the time. Id hold off on upgrading all that until you were sure your alt wasnt going to handle it, unless you just feel like doing all that anyway.

Could be a weak alternator or a wire connection or grounding issue.
