MX-3 Steering Wheel Swap Ques.

Post by justin h »

Hey guys. I've been thinking I want a new steering wheel, but not sure what fits. I don't want an aftermarket racing steering wheel, instead I think using a newer Mazda one would be better. I can't find any info. on the internet about steering wheel mount differences. I was considering using a Mazda 3 steering wheel with the radio controls, and rigging a remote to control my stereo (my roommate has done it before). I'm curious if anyone knows any specifics or experiences that might help? Would gettting the whole steering column from the other vehicle work? Would a aftermarket hub adapter work to mount a newer OEM wheel from another model?
Thoughts/Comments?

From what I can find about Mazda OEM wheels they were all the same spline count untill 2000. Then some models changed to a newer style and thus wouldn't fit the MX-3. So a Mazda 3 will not work.
There are other Mazda models that used wheel mounted radio controlls weren't there?

If the spline count is the same then there shouldn't be a problem, right? I'll look into it. I just like newer Mazda wheels because they're smaller (like BMW wheels) and want leather and comfort.

Yeah, the Momo works very well, but if you want a newer wheel it a. might not fit, b. won't have any way to controll any steering wheel functions like cruise or radio controll if the newer wheel has them.
