I remember when I was looking at getting my first car.

I had always been obsessed with 1st and 2nd gen RX-7s for as long as i could remember. Insurance was about $200 a month for liability and no collision. So i started to look at another option, i figured the MX-3 would be a nice car to get instead, I had always loved the styling especially the way the hatch make it looks like a little space craft :) Upon looking into the insurance i was taken aback when i found out it was considerably more then the RX-7 insurance.

I guess because it was a newer car. 92 opposed to an 88.

So i just bought an 88 RX-7 FC.

Now the FC needed a lot of work and I was determined to get it up to snuff.. but for the winter i kept it indoors and got a 92 Ford Tempo to beat around in.
Was about $160 a month for just liability from state farm. Now i drove that tempo for 4 years or so. up until january of this year when it finally died.
Insurance was about $140 a month for that heap. When i got the MX-3 3 months ago i was pleasantly surpised to see that a little 2 door sports car was actually $130 a month for liability. Same year as the tempo too.. found that really strange.

I would imagine that the MX-3s are a lot cheaper on insurance now.. even for a first time driver.

Personal Assurance is the name of the company. But you have to be a police officer/family or military/ex/family to use them.
Of course, im 40 with an excellent driving record, I do pay alot less.

No Insurance

Post by Paylrider »

As I am in law enforcement I can say with no doubt in Ontario it is a $5000 fine if you are found without insurance and you do not show up in court with a good sob story for the JP. If you do and you cry hard enough (no joke) they knock it down to as little as $500, but wait till your insurance company finds out by running your record at random, then it gets really crazy.
