What make you think a 6 speed tranny is going to reduce rpms at highway speeds.
If you were to swap one of the following common 6 speed FWD transmissions into your car at 3000rpm you would be doing the following speeds:
Getrag = 62 mph
Aichi = 67mph
Toyota = 63 mph
Honda = 67 mph
nissan = 74 mph (2 and 3 gear ratio are like 3 1/2 and 4 on your tranny)
Your current 5 speed with the 5th gear swap = 73 mph.
In a 6 speed MTX the gear spacing is closer together so the additional gear be somewhere between 3 and 4 if it were a 5 speed is most cases. Nissan is a little different were they a granny 1st gear a wide space to 2 where it is almost like 3rd gear in the Mazda tranny then 3rd,4th & 5th are almost on top of each other and 6th is slightly taller than a conventional 5th gear.
