bpt swap questions

Post by silentrite »

hey guys, i've got a 93 SOHC (no hope) and i've been thinking about doing the BPT swap for a while now and this is the last chance i'll have to do it for a long time (i leave for the Air Force in a few months) U guys think its possible to get all the pieces and install it in less then 5 months? Also i plan on swapping in teh protege LX tranny with it. What else would i need to replace. I've read storys about mount problems and electrical issues. I've got a pretty fair amount of knowledge about cars and my dad's a mechanic... can it be done?!?!? thanks

long story short! it can be done in a weekend very easly. all you need it the BPT motor, pro LX trans, with axels and half shaft, then the pro LX trans side mount as well as the front and rear mounts with brackets. then if you want to do it proper get a BP26 ECU. its tuned for the turbo motor, plug and play. real easy and straight forward. if you need more info use the search function, there shoudl be a write up in the FAQ section.

half shaft connects the axle on the passenger side to the tranny. The axel stabs into the green part (he took his apart for a different reason)

Its there to reduce torque steer by bolting the axle to the block so it has less movement under heave accelleration. Smaller econo motors come with a single long axle that doesn't bolt to the block. The stock 323 would be an example.
