I need a flywheel for the bp i'm putting in my mx-3 since the engine didn't come with one so i found two i'm looking at:
billet steel:

and
aluminum:

not sure which one is realy better (strength vs. hp)

I would go with the 2nd one (the fidanza) b/c you can replace the gripping surface instead of only getting it resurfaced X amount of times before having to replace the whole flywheel.
At least that was my logic in going with my Fidanza on my BP build.

GS + BP + T3 + 9lb flywheel - some dead weight =

yeah but how often will i ahve to replace a surface vs. just resurfacing it.. cause autox isnt' that rough on the flywheel cause you only shift once per race usually... tend to stay in second gear

Well first off which tranny are you using... the 1st one's for the G-series, and the second one's for the F-series.
10lbs billet steel... that sounds nice... cause my SPEC aluminum flywheel is about 9lbs... I think the stock G-series flywheel is about 18lbs.
Another thing you might wanna check before buying a MIATA flywheel is that the ring gear has the same number of teeth.

oops posted the wrong second one.. i'm doing to better trans also cause i might switch to awd later so i need the 1.8 flywheel
i guess gseries is the one i am looking for as far as trans... i want the stronger one
so are there any advantages to the steel or the al? the weights are really close

Then you wanna make sure the AWD tranny flywheel is the same as the G-series tranny flyweel...
The only reason they make aluminum flywheels is for weight... if they weigh the same, then I'd go with the billet steel.
