ZX2 Strusts

Post by gfreire »

Ok im looking to replace all 4 struts on my car and have been reading about the zx2 struts that many people are recommending to use for the mx3. I just have a few questions. i've been reading the guide for the installation and see that they say u only need to modify the front perches. Is the best way on making the hole bigger using a dremel. Also is there any modification required for the rear struts as in the guide it doesnt metion anything. So im assuming the back stocks just fit right in as if they were direct replacement. I just wanted to make sure before i go out and buy the pieces and have my local mechanic install them. Also does anyone here recommend me using Ground Control Coilovers with these or will they make my ride to rough.
I have searched but couldnt find a theread were people recommend the best combinations for spring and struts.

Grinding the fronts works pretty good, you can use a dremel or die grinder. Right after I did min I realized I should have just used a large drill bit then the hole would be perfect..

About the ground control coilovers does anyone recommend me using them with the zx2 struts, or should i just use the stock springs, and will the stock mazda springs work with the zx2 struts. dont really want to put lowering springs because i wont be able to drive the car out of my drive way in the winter. Also anyone know where i can get the camber bolts in toronto, assuming i will needs when doing my alignment.

I've known people to use the ZX-2 struts with lowering springs so I'd assume that GCs that are not slammed would be fine. The issue is that a usual strut is not meant to be compressed all the time and will wear out from trying to decompress all the time. A ZX-2 is not meant for lowering, but is still a performance strut and should be ok with a bit of lowering.

Actually the ZX2's struts are designed to be lowered, they are designed to run with the ZX2 eibach prokit, which lowers our cars just shy of 1.5". This combo came factory on the ZX2 s/r models.
