Calgary to Kelowna Convoy

Post by wyldside »

This is for everyone who is leaving Calgary on the 23rd to convoy to Kelowna. Since we will no longer be waiting for Justin to come in from Saskatoon, we can actually leave earlier, beat the rush hour traffic and get to kelowna sooner (if you're all cool with that). We could actually miss the stupid Kelowna rush hour traffic too. I was thinking that we could leave Calgary around 7:00am? Where should we meet? I was thinking somewhere around 16th Ave & Stoney Trail NW since that's pretty close to Calgary's western edge. Let me know what you think. :D

Here are some pics from last year...

I think there is a Shell Station close to Stoney Trail along 16th Ave. I'm not saying we should fill up there but we can meet there, grab snacks, fill tires, etc. and then get read to go.

Since I live pretty much at Stoney and Crowchild, I'm good with leaving from anywhere in the northwest end, as opposed to say, oh, Cheadle!

 Yeah, that would piss people off, to make them drive out to my place and then back to the city again after to head to Kelowna. I can't wait to get out there. I need to get away from work badly. Are you still okay with your hotel room Mark? I don't know for sure but the other Marc might go and will probably need a place to stay too. Not sure if his gf Cara is going too. Not sure if you'd want to share a room with both of them though. You never know what they might be up to.

Darcy and I are currently planning on bunking together. If not, I'll find somewhere. I'm adaptable. Not crazy about flying by the seat of my pants, but hey, what's one more roll of the dice?

Sounds good Mark. SO does that Shell station close to Stoney Trail along 16th Ave NW sound good for 7:00am? Then we can burnout of there at around 7:15 or so.

Anyone with a digicam that can take video, please bring it. We can compile all the videos at the end of the trip into a video for the showcase section.

I'd say the Petro Canada that has the Olympic Torch memorial display as it's on the right side of the road. (If Shell is too, then we can meet there)

My only hope is that Highway 1 or 1A or opened up. Yesterday I know at least the eastbound lane was closed because they were fixing the road back up after it flooded (dont ask why)

Let's just meet at the shell station at 7:00am and go with that. Plus I'm too lazy to change the location website. It's just somewhere to meet and leave from. I'll be gassing up at Esso or Petro before hand anyways. Had a bad experience with Shell's gas once before. Does everyone have an FRS radio?

Where is the shell anyways? North or South side of the road?

THe Shell is on the North side of 16th Ave. When you are driving West on 16th Ave and go under the Sarcee Trail Overpass, go up the hill and watch on your right hand side. You'll see it.

Is the Shell east or west of Stoney?

I'm pretty sure it's East of Stoney but I wouldn't be my life on it. I'm rarely ever in that area.
