Delicate subject

Post by FrankenMazda »

Hi Im a mazda nut in Ottawa, Im looking to swap a Kl into my 323.

I've done all my homework and have a good idea of what I need, a crapload of mx3 bits mainly, fair enough.

There just arent any mx3's in any of the yards in my local area, Im about to start searching the gatineau/hull area yards.

Are there any 'u-pullit' places you might know of in the area with a possible donor car? I would be willing to trek out to montreal if they were reasonable.

I had one place that wanted $175 cdn for the engine crossmember ALONE, I nearly spit cofee across the room.

I know I need the mx3 specific engine c.member, engine mounts, tranny mount, shift lnkage, axles, exhaust manifold, collector pipe, the vaf(that about it?), and a couple of other bits. Id also grab a wiring harness and tranny.

Whats a reasonable total for that pile of parts? Like I said, where?

:) You should specify which K-series engine you're refering to. If you want a local junk-yard to find a KL-de or K8 (North American 2.5L and 1.8L) I cant help. But if you wanna spend the extra $ and get a KL-ze (JDM 2.5L) just Google "jdm kl-ze"... Or ebay...

You're also gonna need the ECU/harness from a V6 MX-3, and a VAF (from an MX3 if you're goin the 1.8 route, from a P-GT/MX6/626 if you're doin the ZE)... And get ALL the engine-mounts from an MX3 V6, incl that cross-member you mentioned... And if you do the ZE-swap, you'll need a distributor from a P-GT/MX6/626 as well... Oh, and all the VRIS/EGR connections from the MX3 V6 engine itself (the things the harness plug into)...

:?: Thats all I can think of, someone feel free to correct me... Pretty sure my info's accurate...

First, no way Im doing all this freakin work to drop a 1.8 in there  , so its going to be the 2.5, domestic or jdm havent decided. There's a little voice telling me to t-turbo the -de...

But I digress, Im not looking for the engine, thats about the only thing Im not looking for right now.

"You're also gonna need the ECU/harness from a V6 MX-3, and a VAF (from an MX3 if you're goin the 1.8 route, from a P-GT/MX6/626 if you're doin the ZE)... You are correct sir, hence my post, I need a 'where' to get said bits. :help:

I dont have an infinite budget, so Im looking for a junkyard that will give me a decent/bulk price on all the mx-3 specific stuff (that is unless someone has the pieces left over from a bpt swap). Buying it one piece at a time, and paying shipping on top of that could wind up costing a fortune.

Thats ok, I socred the majority of the needed stuff at the above mention junkyard, at ironically, just about the same time as bmwm3guy guy posted the info on it.

I found it kind of funny, but I think that's just because Im so freaking giddy at finally getting the crap I needed without getting anally intruded financially.

Think I'm going to finish this in a more appropriate thread...

Thanks for any and all help, cheers.
