Steve; Who would have the less expensive gaskets - Mazda or Ford? Are they the same item/quality gasket?

Wow, that is quite a dispairity between prices and geographies. It appears to be hit and miss and it's just a question of calling around to local dealerships. Good to know stuff!!

Did a little searching at CT.
Part# VS50426R (Fel Pro) - $171.98cdn/set for Probe and Millennia.
Part# VS50462R (Fel Pro) - $64.72cdn/set for 2.5L '96 Ford Contour, 2.5L '98 Ford Mystique.
Not sure if different part numbers equate to different gaskets but this is quite a price difference.

look it up for the ford probe at autozone or a place similar.

usually the ford probe is cheaper just b/c more were sold, even though its teh same part number.

You shouldn't have to spend more than $40 for a pair of valve cover gaskets

More usefull tidbits. Local Mazda quoted $37.00cdn / each bank. They also mentioned that some Mazda dealerships don't always purchase/sell Mazda OEM parts as in the case with VC gaskets. Rather, they sometimes stock/sell replacement parts with the consumer sometimes believing that everything sold by Mazda is OEM. This may explain the disparity in prices and quality at various dealerships.

ford contour and mystique doesn't have the same gaskets as ours...it's the duratec engine and not a k-series engine...
