I know you can cut out a section and weld a new piece of metal there but there is still the risk of rust regardless if its a new piece of metal or not. Even if you have a pinhead size spot of rust on the car it will spread and this is why they dont guarantee. No bodyshop can get all the rust from a body, to do that they'd have to totally dismantle the car.

There's a difference between surface rust, spreading rust, and rust that has rusted through from behind the surface of the car. Surface rust should not take place.
When we had both our 1991 Safari Van and 1987? Ford F150 repainted, the van needed few small spots and had some slight paint peeling, the truck had a Ford recall on the paint job...both got the whole thing repainted.
Now i don't remember the truck cause that was about 10 years ago, but i remember my dad sold it about 2-ish years later because it was starting to rust through, that was suppose to be a "professional" paint job from a well known local shop.
The van was done by my mom's boyfriend about 2 years ago, and in less than a year, the whole van started to rust through, even in places where rust wasn't present before, that was from a poor paint job. Fortunately we didnt't have toe worry about it cause the van ended up getting stolen.
The last thing we need is get a paint job and a year or two later the whole car started to rust...especially in previously non-rusted areas

Sandblast the body, cut out the rust damaged area's a few inches away from the edge of the damage. It's not easy work, but it will stop rust in it's tracks. Like I said, most body shops just want to cover it up and collect there cheque. I will not deal with them and niether should anyone who wants good work done.I know you can cut out a section and weld a new piece of metal there but there is still the risk of rust regardless if its a new piece of metal or not. thats odd cause out of the 10 or so different body shops i went to none of them would guarantee rust work. I finally picked a shop by the quality of their work. they fixed everything but told me theres no guarantees. They did say if I got it rust checked then it probably wouldnt come back but they cant guarantee it
They wont guarantee it because they wont fix it. It's very simple. I worked in a race shop that was attached to a body shop back when I was in high school. I learned all about the ways of the body business while I was there. I'm not trying to make anybody feel bad about any work they've had done. I just want the awareness out there that if there is no guarantee on the work, I will guarantee that you will see that rust come back. Think about it, pretend your a body shop owner. Some kid comes to you with his rust spotted, 10 year old hatchback and says fix this rust. Would you take your time and do the work properly with a guarantee? Or give him no guarantee and have it in and out in a few days?

any updates on this, strife?
also, just to be clear, i'm not asking for a lifetime warranty against rust because that's not reallistic. a 5 year warranty or something would be nice to have because then you know that they didn't just sand a bit, then bondo (not that i'm doubting THIS shop in particular). i've looked around in the past and a couple places have offered a warranty against rust, but i didn't have the funds at the time.

Hey i would be down for this, I just put a lip kit onto my car and I would like to get it molded and painted, cause the paint that is on there now is the american white of my car not the candian white. Just so you know i drive a 2003 tiburon, I don't know if the pricing would be any different on that. But ya I have been to carstar (who guarentee's their work) and they couldn't match the paint worth a s---, so I am looking to take it to somewhere who will make sure the damn paint matches. Let me know

There is some pics of the kit so you can give the guy an idea of what needs to be done. I don't really think i would need to mold the side skirts but most definatly i would need to do the front and rear

i am very interested for sometime this summer.
My car will need somoe minor bodywork and a full body paintjob OEM black.
How much for the paintjob not considering the bodywork? Just paint. I know that bodywork is subject to an exstimate, so Im looking for JUST paint and whatever needs to be done. My car is black.
Thanks a lot!

Hey guys, I'm still around. Sorry for the leave of absence, I had to travel to the US for 3 weeks on business.
Anyway this is definitely still happening, but my flight only arrived back last night so I'll need a few days to get back up to speed. Calling the shop is one of the items on my list
Stay tuned. I'll confirm warranty details and find out pricing for painting an entire car.
(PS - anyone know why my original account was declared inactive? is it because I didn't sign in for so many weeks? I had to create a new username... do i need to contact a moderator to get my original account reactivated?)
