Split Hoods

I was looking around at andy's auto sport the other day and i noticed they had some intersting stuff, one thing of which was the split hood kit. It was universal I think, and looked legit. But I'm not sure, is it too good to be true, and would it work/look nice? Any comments?

i dunno, a universial kit for split hoods should be simple enough. hinges on either side (whichever way you split it) and probably a couple of gas springs to hold it up. the problem is finding a place to mount the parts really, though i suppose it can be done. as for looks, it would look mostly like a normal hood when closed, just with an extra seem on it. the biggest problem i can think of would be keeping the edges clean enough, but it's been done before so...yeah. i'd say give it a try, i bet it'd look pretty good in the end.

a guy around here had a civic with a split hood, it was pretty cool to see the seem in the middle was barely noticeable. go for it.

Yah sounds easy enough, but what would i use to cut the hood? Di-grinder?

you can use pretty much anything. whatever you have access to or find easiest. a cut off wheel is what i use alot for metal work and would work great for the job.

hacking open the hood would probely be easier with a metal nibbler or just using a sawz all

The picture that he showed of the nibbler is a air nibbler in which you need a compressor. Dewalt and milwalkee both make a good electric pair if you donnot have a compressor
