Re: largest rubber on our cars
you're gonna need some sick offset with 235's...
but first of all.. WHY? MX-3's dont need much more than 205 or 215.. any more would be wasted gas.

Re: largest rubber on our cars
are you talking only with? or height as well? I have seen 19's under our wheel wells, and providing you have enough offset, I suppose you could pretty much go as wide as you wanted
Re: largest rubber on our cars
ya i guess i shoulda clarified... not bling bling 20s
I mean width of tread, i find that even with 225
there is can be alot of wheel spin.
ze with nos option goin on so thats why.

Re: largest rubber on our cars
Honestly I would like to know too. THe 205/55/r15's i have now (stock) rub on the back! But then again I have ZX2 struts but it is still ridiculous.
What offset would i need for 235's? I have massive traction problems...

you know if you have that kind of torque, you should invest in some slicks, rather than eatin up your tires. Chances are this "wheelspin" is on the track, if not, try not to stomp on it at every green light.

Re: largest rubber on our cars
I found I had to do the opposite and went from 225 down to a 215 to get more bite out my tires. Both set were TOYO T-1S so I was compare apples to apples as far as compound and tread pattern go. The reason for this change was to get more weight over the foot print of the tread to increase ground pressure. Chances are you have lowered you car and never bother to get a camber kit. Lowering the does 2 things it increase negative camber and with wider tire naturally wants to toes in the wheels slightly more when in forward motion. Without fixing the added negative camber you are effectively forcing your tires to use about a 3 wide patch of rubber until you wear down the rubber on the inside edge of each tire to get a wider contact patch. When you have toe-in you are basically forcing the left tire to fight the right tire as to which one is going straight. It basically took me a set of tires and some help for the tech guys from TOYO to help me get this issue straighten out. Once we figure out a happy medium between straight line grip off the line and grip into the turns, a set of corner scales indicated that the MX-3 wasn't heavy enough to achieve the proper ground pressure for maximum grip with the 225's. the 225's were basically just floating on the road surface. 215's also gave me another reason for my annual changing of the mags since it would mean changing wheel diameters as well. Another thing to consider is that your rear springs and dampers are weak. This will cause weight shift to the rear of the car lifting the front. Guys like Dave Lauzier and Sean Matthews were using 900lb/in linear rate springs to maximize traction. I'm using 500lb/in springs myself. Controlling side to side load transfer is also important to maximizing tire grip especially if you are running peg-leg. I think I am the only one with a MX-3 with a 24mm rear anti-roll bar. Going from the stock 20mm to a '96 22mm to a 24mm bar I had a company in Calgary make for me about 6 years ago, you can really notice the difference in reduction in wheel spin and quicker acceleration times As the rear bar gets bigger at the same time the front must get softer. I'm not much for drag racing but the alignment and suspension issues were probably good for shaving 0.15 to 0.3 sec in a 1/4. I would recommend looking fixing any mechanical issue before trying to put wider rubber on your car

Re: largest rubber on our cars
yah i totaly agree with yoda. i had some federal 215/40/17's on and i was getting no grip. i wasent even close to the wear marks and the other day i got a deal on some bran new Yokohama AVS ES100's in 205/40/17. and they made the biggest differance. beside my spedo being on now, i have traction up the ying yang. alot of it has to do with the type of tires but i get tons of grip now, and my acceleration has increased dermatically. i figured a wider bigger tire would be a little better with the power but definatly not in this case. i like the way the wider tires look but thies are a really nice tire.
the only thing now is i have to put my camber bolts in.

Re: largest rubber on our cars
Actually I do have camber bolts, I had my front camber set to -.5 and the rear to -1 degree. I am running BFG radial ta's. I am pushing 10 psi of boost on a 2.5 KL and it sucks how much wheelspin it has....
If I roll the throttle at anything less than 40 mph or so, I start spinning. This is on the street obviously. Not too worried about the track, I am considering getting a pair of slicks.
Anyways I am a little lost on what to do here. Anyone know what stock wheel offset is?

Re: largest rubber on our cars
Somewhere I have a site bookmarked that has a table of offsets for different cars. Can't locate it at the moment but if memory serves, the MX-3 is either 38mm or 40mm offset.Originally posted by rebel2k4:
