odd tread wear

Post by mxprecidia »

i got new kumho low pro tires in august...the tires look fine from the naked eye, but the other day i had to park in a weird angle and i parked with the steering wheel turned, i glanced at my front tire and about an inch in from the inside of the tire is worn to death...the metal is visible...but the outside of the tire is fine with much tread left...this happened to both front tires...is there a reason why just the inside of the tires is so worn? u think i needed an alignment long ago? thanks

Umm Yeah.

Your Camber is WAYYY off.

If your car is lowered this is the main reason your tires are gone.

Get new tires, have your camber adjusted so the inside of your tires are not wering out so fast.

Also-- do you rotate your tires every 6000 miles??

Some people recommend that if you have a lowered car, that you rotate them every 3000 (or every time you change your oil) to ensure even tread wear.

No need for a camber kit-- just get a good alignment.

Rotate your tires every time you change them. I do mine twice a year, when I switch from winer to summer and vv. Align then especially after you get a new set or change something with your suspension, such as lower your car.

worst case you'll need to buy camber bolts, they are like 15$ CDN. You'll only need these if your out really bad. Get them to be safe if you want.

1) ALWAYS GET A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT WHEN YOU BUY NEW TIRES FOR YOUR CAR.
2) CAMBER BOLTS ARE $40.00 FOR 2 BOLTS
3) YOUR CAMBER WOULD HAVE TO BE LIKE -3 TO -4 DEG TO WEAR THAT MUCH.
4) YOUR TOE WOULD ONLY HAVE TO BE OFF BY .5 TO 1 DEG TO DO THAT MUCH DAMAGE.
5) MOST LIKELY ITS YOUR TOE THATS OUT OF SPEC.
6) ITS RECOMENDED THAT YOU CHECK YOUR ALIGNMENT (ON A MACHINE) EVERY YEAR.
7) YOU HAVE TO DO A 4 WHEEL ALIGNMENT WHEN EVER YOU CHANGE THE RIDE HIGHT OF YOUR CAR. (LOWER OR HIGHER)

My front tires wear more on the inside, but on
the outside too. What is wrong? Tire pressure?
Do I need an alignment?

Most likely your camber is off and your tires are under inflated. Check your tire pressure.

Camber doesn't wear your tires all that fast, even if it is way off.

Toe is what screws you over when you lower your car. You MUST have proper toe or your tires will wear apart in 2000 miles. I learned this the hard way.

Get a friggin alignment when you lower your car!!
