what paint did you guys use for the valve cover???

i see some of you paint you valve covers black, did you guys use heat res. paint or just auto panit or.....
i want to paint mine, mine doesnt look any good, so i want to sand blast it and paint it.

Get it sandblasted & powdercoated for $50 and you will be a lot happier.

It wont chip off, and it will withstand the high temps of the engine better.


I used High temp primer & high temp gloss black paint on my SOHC valve cover. Looks okay, but I wish I had gone that extra step & just had it powdercoated.

they got that hi-temp engine paint at canadian tire, it looks ok, but ya as atlanta said, go for powdercoating.

you either can use high temp engine paint, most cheap way to do it, or you can powdercoat it, or just polish your valve cover to chrome look

yeah man, that looks great, i never seen a powdercoated job before, id like that black look, but i dont know where i can get it sand blasted and stuff.

these are Pat's (street-import) valve cover that was powdert coated...looks really nice you can't see it but it has flakes in it..do not get canadian tire engine paint..I did and it isn't washable trust me on this one

After cleaning it really well put on two thin coats of high heat matte black paint. Fortunately I have two covers, just in case my first attempt goes poorly in driving conditions.

most places that do powder-coating can either take care of the sandblasting, or know good places to have it done. (for powder-coating to work the surface has to be VERY clean, so they, like places that do metal-plating, are typically very good at doing the surface prep work.

Also most PC places have a good variety of colors and finishes to choose from. They can even do clear.. (think about this for a moment... polish up, or created a 'brushed' finish on the Al cover, then have it covered with a clear powder-coat so it won't turn back to a typical dull oxidized Al finish.. depending on the level of effort you want to go to, some fairly sick finishes could be created.. )

{goes away contemplating the burnished 'bank vault' look, wondering how hard that might be to create....}

I have seen every kinda paint being used on this and actaully besides the powder coat you can use car paint with a spray gun and house of colors clear or something of that nature and it will bake on. On my honda before I used hi temp paint and it lasted but def clear coat it if you are trying to do it cheaper
