changing dash?

Post by jap »

I have the 1993 Sohc mx3. I just recently noticed that the 1994-96 mx3 had a different and nicer dash. I will be trying to get a hold of one of the newer 1994 dashes from a junkyard. Has anyone with a 1993 mx3 ever swaped the dash to a 1994 mx3 dash? Will the 1994 mx3 dash fit perfect in the 1993 mx3?

yeap, i have seen it in person, the only thing which you wont be able to swap is the heater/AC control unit which sits kinda deeper than the 94 one and as you should;ve seen its logical rather than the mechanical 93 style. so just keep the heater/AC control and find gauge cluster holders(the 4 black hooks that holds the cluster) and you should be all set,,, :D

Can you please explain? I was just planing on swaping the dash from the 1994 mx3 and nothing esle. Are you trying to say I will need the heater/ac control from the 1994 mx3 also?

No they don't matter whether from 4 or 6 cylinder. Be aware the 94+ heater control panel is shorter than the 92/93 controls by 1 inch. 94+ control panel comes in two versions. Manual slider or electronic push button. The easiest way is to get th 94 slider control panel and it should work with the 93 heating system. Going to fully electronic is harder and requires alot of work. I did not do the dash swap but I wanted the electric controls. it required getting the heater unit and blower assembly because they have the little actuator motors on them. It had to be custom wired too. BTW, the heater assembly and control panel was from a 4 cyl MX-3 and fitted into my SE fine.

Ok,let me make sure I understand this completely. All I have to do is swap the dash but keep my old heater/ac controls from my 93 mx3 and that's it.
Is that right?

You may have to replace the vent control panel to a 94 slider style panel

What if you wanted to swap from a 94+ to a 92-93 dash what would have to be done?

Yo, lets stick to one topic. This is how people get confused. Anyway why would you do that? If you want you can have my 1993 dash and give me your 1994 dash.

It has been done before and discussed before. DO a search. Someone mentioned the steering colom will also have to be changed.

I personally like it better, the old style looks too old school.
