K8-ZE engine swap help!

Post by pcperez83 »

I recently finished swapping in the new engine, and when i turn the key the starter goes but no combustion, i tested the power running to the disty all is good, i checked the spark plugs to see if gas was going to the engine and sure enough sparks were covered with gas so there is gas going to the engine but it's not sparking? Am i missing something here? any suggestions? i know that disty is working for sure, but its justn not happening? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Undo one plug and hold it against the engine to see if the gap sparks when the engine is cranked.

ok i did that, and just as suspected no spark. So i checked out the disty, and it looks like where the disty connects to the engine, there are these 2 teeth that weren't aligned properly in the grooves. So i installed the disty properly and tested the power cables running to the disty and there is power, i turn the key but STILL no spark. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Pedro,

Im Assuming your using your KL01 dizzy from your K8 engine
These are the dizzy's with the Internal coilpack

Quickest test is pull all the sparkplugs out and
leave them in the leads and remove the dizzy from
the motor, turn the key to the on position and then
turn the dizzy by hand, you should hear the injectors clicking
and hopefully sparks on the spark plugs if the gapping is correct

If you have spark and click wind the motor around
by hand to TDC, so the #1 pistion is up and vavles closed,
wind the dizzy around by hand till the number one
lead spark's them reinstall the dizzy as you maybe 180 degree's out of phase.

Still no spark, check the resistance of the internal coil
if that is fine, borrow, steal, nick someone elses
KL01 dizzy to comfirm its not the ignitor module
in the dizzy that has gone..

Hi Pedro,

Grease up your local mazda wreaker, and borrow one on a bond,
they should do tell them to dab it up with marker paint so they know its
there one they are getting back...
