Should I by an mx-3???

Post by Sirus »

I am just wondering if I should sell my 90 integra for a 92,93,94 mx-3? I mostly like them just for there potential to look great. I have heard they are quite gutless though and I am just wondering if I am into being at least one of the faster guys on the road will I be needing to order an engine for a swap or is it not that bad? Anyways I jsut wanna get as many opinions as I can so if I go through with this thing I have some positives to look forward too.
Thanks.

do some more research before calling our cars gutless
And if you want options, stick with honduh....every part is available for them out there.
But hey, at least the mx3 is about 1000x less common than a honduh, especially hooked up ones.

My brother-in-law's got a '90 Integra pretty decked out with nearly 200 HP N/A, more if he sprays NOS.....I'd much rather have my car though. Much prettier, and much more fun to drive, and lots quiter. The K8 V6 sings softly, even at fuel cut-off @ 7800 RPM. A 4 cyl. at those kinds of RPMs sounds much harsher. Then, those intake and exhausts on the Integras do add some decent power, but they are just loud. On the K series engines, an intake and exhaust doesn't seem to add worthwhile amounts of power, so you can spend you money elsewhere.....like on something that doesn't make alot of noise.
Also, Jap spec engines for swaps seem to be a little more reasonablely priced than for Honda/Acura enines.

If you get a V-6 you can swap in a 2.5 liter J-spec motor for under $1500. That puts you at 200hp and about 50% more torque than any of the honda vtec motors. Then the car is not gutless and a lot of cars will be seeing your taillights.

Dont forget the clutch, fluids, ECU, belts, waterpump (recommended), and axles (recommended)

Yeah I didnt think of the clutch & axles. That for sure puts you a litle over the $1500 mark.

$3k??
Motor- $1100 shipped
Timing belt & acc., water pump- $300
Clutch- $265 for a clutch masters, $160 for a Napa
Axles- $60 each from Autozone
ECU- $200-$400
Total= $1880-$2185
As soon as i find a car(not as easy as I thought it would be) I'm putting in a KLZE. Heres what I figured for a budget-
Motor,Tranny,ECU- I was quoted $1500 shipped
CM Stage 2 Clutch & Fidanza Flywheel- $600
Timing Belt & Misc parts- $400
That puts me at $2500,
I'm skipping axles for now. They are easy enough to replace that unless they are bad now I see no need to change them.
A lot of people will just buy Jspec motors and throw them in. Many of those will have no problems. Some of them will. If you went the budget route and just put in the motor you could still do it for under $1500.

hhahahaha
no swap is ever that easy........
first you might have to use a vaf/ecu combo..it works different on different motors,
all i have noticed is the swao is easy for the klze but the actuall tunning is the hard part
or you could always go woth the bpt....makes the most HP & is the hardest swap

Not meaning to hijack this poor guys thread but..
I had thought about the turbo route. I've decided on the V-6 though. I owned an MX-6 V-6 last year, the mileage got really high(160,000), started burning crazy amounts of oil so I had to get rid of it. I loved the instant power that car delivered- It had a flywheel, clutch, intake, test pipe, cat back. No lag just hit the gas and it went. I all ready have one turbo car. Its fast but it still doesnt give me that "feeling" the MX-6 did. My MX-3 to be I hope will fill that gap. It's not going to be the fastest thing around but should allow me to embarass a good amount of cars. I've got the Talon to mod if I want to start running 12's :-)
Here is my ole MX-6

to get ur talon to low 13's, turn up the boost with a boost controller. they can handle 13 lbs safely stock and youll be around a 13.3. do a little more work like internals, fuel and what not and you got urself a 12 second car.
i got a 90 pgt...but wish it was a mx-3 bp-t!

If you do any kind of swap to the mx-3 it is worth it. If you go for the KL-ZE, you will be a lot happier with that then the stock engine, obviously. I swapped in the BPT and I am amazed on the power it puts out for a non tuned engine with low boost. Get the MX and a ZE.

Not in this commercial. Considering stock is a 15.2 I'm not doing to badly. I'm running 17psi now. The stock little 14B turbo is done :p For mods now it has an intake, EVO III exhaust manifold, Ported & clipped Turbine, Tubular O2 housing, 3" turbo back exhaust, No cat. With the current setup I should be getting ~13.7 It's just to hot down in here in FL to get there right now- with the stock side mount intercooler anyway. Next step is a big 16G turbo, 550cc injectors, SAFC and a frount mount. That will put me in the 12's.
I also have nitrous in it but I haven't finished the wiring yet. I'm only going to run a 35hp shot. Just enough to drop the intake temps to something reasonable.
[ August 07, 2003: Message edited by: TsiMiata ]
