mx-3 to drag car...

Post by ZEmadman »

hey guys, first time on here actually posting but i've been doing a lot of research. i got an mx-3 a few months ago and am really looking to make the thing into a drag car.

here's what i had in mind

KL-ZE bored to 2.7 liters, forged pistons etc.
ZE ECU kl31
KL-ZE VAF
MX-6 tranny
Polyurithayne Motor Mounts
Port/Polish
'95/'96 JDM Millenia Intake Manifold
Cams << not really sure what to do here?
ACT Clutch
outlaw thermal spacers
Fidanza/lightend Flywheel
UR Underdrive Pulley
Cold Air Intake
NGK 8.5mm Wires
Hotshot Headers
2.25" exhaust
High Flow Cat
Short Thrower
bored throttle body
fuel pressure regulator
Tires 225/50/15

im not wanting to mess with a turbo because to be quite honest i dont think i'll have the patience to fine tune/maintain the thing. and i figure naturally aspirated would be more of a challenge

are there any tips you guys can give me with this setup? im not sure what to do about the cams either? i've looked around and havent seen this particular setup done before, especially with the overbore, what changes would you make if any?

thanks for taking the time... :)

go to www.probetalk.com and read the sticky thread in the 2nd Gen V6 Performance forum called Engine Build/Rebuild, that will help you find what to do.

and I hope you got lots of $$$ :freak:
boring your engine to a 2.7L and finding pistons/rods to fit it isn't going to be easy..
and port and polish isn't free too...but if you got the $$ I want to see that :2thumbsup:

Very nice and good list, just don't wast your money on the underdrive pulley.

For drag neither is going to make a big difference. Only the final gearing is different (longer in mx-6)

if you can afford it, you can gain 20 or more wheel horsepower over the millenia manifold with a manifold from cyborgzero..... 900 bucks for the TB and IM but if you got the money to tune and you want the maximum N/A horsepower you need this.... just look at it and you can see how free flowing it looks!

what kind of car IS that?

whats so bad about the underdrive pulley?

thanks for the link, i checked it out but im curious as to how i'd have to re-route things to get that thing to work, since it's more of a straight neck.
...and 900 bucks!??!!? i've got $7500 that i can spend on the project and i figure 3000 of it will be just for the motor, the machine shop work to bore it out, and the internals. that site is pretty neat, i just started thinking, should i bump up the compression to 11:1 or would that be risky?

thanks for all the input...anybody have any tips on what cams to get, or should i just keep the kl-31 cams?

They don't add any real HP or torque on a stock or lightly modded motor. Yours may be different. The weight savings is pretty big, not sure about the diameter of the pulley, but they are a waste for most people.

i have one cant say i noticed any difference in power, like patrick said they may be good for people who already have ALOT of power and are looking to gain a little bit more here and there but only thing ive notice is my steering wheel turns faster now because of the pump, pumping p/s fluid faster

If you are turning it into a drag car..remember racing slicks.

And why keep the almost stock rim size?

And why not throw in some NoZ as it is relatively cheap to install and would give you an added kick (or are you going all NA?)

nos wont be ruled out unless i can hit somewhere in the 13's ! (i've heard a basic ze swap drops the mx-3 from a 16.5 to like a 14.5 1/4 mile) so w/all this extra stuff i should be able to join the 13 club.

anybody got a respectible engine dealer? im looking at nippon, ebay, or psituning when he gets more in this winter. most of my stuff will probably come from psituning, they've got a LOT of stuff.

i just dont want to order a ze wanting the kl31 cams and get the one w/the kl01 cams (which is out of a different car if im not mistaken)
