NEW KLZE website

Post by curtklze »

Within the next month there will be a new website up and running dedicated to the KL-ZE engine.

This website will be for ANY car running a KL-ZE,
it will include dyno charts, how to install an engine, upgrades that are available, FAQ's engine specs.

It will also have features on different Turbo setups, Nitrous set ups, ect.. as well as performance numbers and 1/4 mile times.

It will have MX-3, Probes, MX-6's, 626's, 323's, escorts as members and any other car that has a KL-ZE is welcome.

The main focus of this site will be performance and upgrades of KL-ZE, and as a place to teach people about the KL-ZE.

It will also be the main page for organizing meets in the ONTARIO area.

There WILL be group outings to the drag strip AND the dyno for those that are interested.

this post is just to see what kind of interset there will be in it, and to see how many people in the ontario area would be interested in being part of the gatherings, dyno days, and drag strip days.

the klze is an obd-1 (on board diagnostics) and the 96 mx3 is obd-2 , so the wiring is a little tricky I would have to believe.

The new web site will have the answers to these types of questions, to prevent all the miss-information.

this post is just to see what kind of interset there will be in it, and to see how many people in the ontario area would be interested in being part of the gatherings, dyno days, and drag strip days.

to answer the question at hand.
the engine will bolt in just fine, but you cant use a KL-31 or KL-36 ECU to run it because THEY ARE OBD 1 and your car needs a OBD 2 ECU.

BUT!!!!! acording to Lazzey who has tested all the different combos of ECU, If you use your stock ECU, install a KL-ZE engine, and use a KL-02 or KL-03 VAF from a MX-6/xedos 6/626 or Probe it should work well enough.

here are some links to the VAF you need.

MikeUK, your ECU is located on the floor behind the center counsel (console), if you remove the plastic trim on the on the floor beside your the clutch pedal you should see the ECU conectors.

on our OBD1 cars there are 3 seperate connectors.
see if yours is the same or different.

also see if you can get the number off the top of the ECU it would be K8-** something like that.

that way we can add the info to the site and see if we can help you further.

I believe OBD2 ECU has four connectors, because the terminals are labelled A to D, whereas OBD1 are labelled A to C.

Another way to check is to count the O2 sensors. OBD2 has four, OBD1 has two.

I have mapped the OBD2 harness to the OBD1 ECU. I'm 98% confident its right, but it needs someone to try it to see whether it is.

a reference site with clear clean cut non-conflicting information on the klze would be sweet. it'd save lots of people lots of time, and possibly money.

Yeah, Curt, I don't live anywhere near there, but I would be on the site often. Sounds like a great way to get people who really know about the KL-ZE to share some useful, straightforward info. I'm all for it> :2thumbsup:

Curt Im gonna check that out, but my car is in the garage at the moment. I should be geting it back tomorrow.
But I have just been told by an ex MX6 owner that the OBD 1 virsions (up to 95)had its Diagnostics Connector in the engine compatment on the right hand side behind the battery, where as the OBD2 (96 onwards) Data link was located under the drivers dash area. Id check it out my self but cant at the mo. What does every one else find?

Cheers for the help Curt, I think the sites a real good idea, could get sonme Probe owners on there too. I know they are doing a group buy on the KLZE for $800 at the mo.

Mike,
According to Chilterns, the diagnostic connector for OBD2 below the dash is an additional connector; if that's correct the one under the bonnet will still be there for grounding points when setting timing, etc.

Cheers for that Ian.

Had a look at my car today, its a 95 after all. Lucky me KLZE will be a little easier now. Just need to build up the funds before I go buying anything else.

doubble check the # of connectors on the ECU, just to be sure. if the production date of the car is 07-95 to 12-95 then it may be a 96 and it may be OBD 2.

it only takes a sec to check the ECU connectors.
