Asking the guru's: Should I buy a 93 V6?

Post by dominion »

Saw a 93 V6 automatic for sale. Good price, good shape. I don't know anything about this car, any of you MX-3 guru's got any advice? What weaknesses are known for this car? What should I be looking for? Has only 65K miles on it. Any advice?

I humbly ask a question of the all mighty mx-3 guru's and this is what I get? Thanks for the advice. *cough* It's actually a car for the girlfriend more than me, but yes, I know automatic is not as much fun but given it's a used car, I'm not so sure it's a bad thing.

I have a 92 auto. Although I do with it was a standard, I love it. But expect to rebuild the tranny at about 90K. I say go for it. It's been a great car. :)

Are the Trannys a weakness? Are the auto Tranny's the same as the ones on the 4 cylinders? Why are you rebuilding your tranny? Thanks for the advice.

get a transmission service done as soon as you buy the car, and if your gf takes it easy on it , it will last
see if you are interested in 5spd,
it takes some time to learn how to drive it, but it's a lot better
Check out my ride and leave some feedback please!

Auto trannys on the MX-3 are known to be bad. And yes auto does suck as far as speed and performance goes BUT auto is way more convienient to drive especially if you drive in a lot of traffic to work every morning. To answer your main question, yes you should buy that '93 V6 if it's listed at a good price and in good shape. You should look all around the car for rust spots. Also bring a magnet with you to see if the car has any body damage that has been repaired to look new. Look underneath the car for rust spots and to see if the exhaust is in good shape, check the brake discs. Look under the hood and do a brief check of all the hoses and wires. Check the tire wear to see if it needs alignment. If it has power options, check to see if they all work. Check all the lights and switches. If it has A/C, check it. And anything else you can think of. Then give a test drive, but not a dinky little test drive like around the block or something, test it on the highway where you can gun it and see if the engine runs smooth. If everything seems fine and the car isn't too small for the driver (the driver's seat is sometimes too small for a tall driver since you can't go back that far), buy the car. Hope this helps and g'luck.
