Intake and bad milage?

Post by hud_91gt »

OK, this is on my '91 EGT, but the Escort board is down now so I thought I'd ask here.
I put on my intake about 3 weeks ago, and it drives fine, and sounds great, but I noticed I lost about 50km on a full tank of gas, so I thought, I might have been driving it really hard since I put it on, but again I had to fill up 50km early this week also. Do people usualy loose this much milage from an Intake, sounds really odd to me because that is over 15% lost...
The only thing I can think of is maybe the tube from the Intake is getting hot and heating up the air to the engine, but im not sure.
[ January 23, 2003: Message edited by: hud_91gt ]

My personal comment is that there can be a minor drop in milage, but most of it is lead foot related.

I found that with my Probe GT, as I modded it, the gas milage actually got better. Of course, that's after the "test period" ;)
I started out with 19/24 when I got the car, and after a few bolt-ons, I had improved the milage to 26/32, with a V-6.
How is the power increase? If I remember correctly, the intakes for the EGT's are just a filter and adapter hooking up to the airflow sensor, right? My bro had one a few years ago and that's what he had. They tend to suck in warm air, and that might affect the milage some on your car. I made my own intake for my PGT, and it went down almost to the road, so low that you could see the filter if you were about 20 feet from the car, just by looking at the bottom. I would've though that Hotshot or someone would make one like that for the EGT.

I actually made one for my EGT too, I can make it go down to the road with about 10 minutes of work, but I am going to keep it in the side of the engine bay for the wet seasons. I was told resetting my computer might help so I am going to do that today....
