Resonance chamber?????

What function does the resonance chamber serve? This is the small box to the right of the air filter box? What possible problems could arise with its removal?

Was i right about the box?I've unpluged it b4 but didnt feel a thing so i pluged it back.

CoSpringsMX3-The resonance chamber is installed by the manufacturers to eliminate the sound of air being drawn in through the intake system; try visualizing it as a sort of muffler(which is similar in design).
