Re: Crooked Steering Wheel

Not the type of response I was looking for but I did get a chuckle out of it...

Crooked Steering Wheel

1993 4cyl, anyone else experience the steering wheel sitting crooked when driving straight? I had the car aligned about a year ago and asked them to correct the crooked steering wheel. I figured the PO had replaced tie rod ends and screwed it up. They did the job and the wheel was straight, now alth...

My car is a 93 but same as yours otherwise. I had the same issues a while back with rpm drop/stall at lights, stop signs etc... thought it was a big problem I was going to have to look into. I had installed a new alt belt and had yet to readjust the tension after the initial break in. The belt had s...

Nobody else has had this recall done ?
I did a search here in the forum but couldnt find anything on the correct installation of the shield. I suspect it could be spun around the strut to the other side but which is correct ?

spring recall question

Just had this recall done at the Mazda dealer here in Maine, looked at it when I got home and the shields they installed are facing inward, they are on the engine side of the spring. Is this correct ? I thought they would be on the tire side of the spring.

Just did my mileage again now that the weather has warmed up, got 29.2 miles per gallon ! Thats up from the 23 mpg I was getting earlier this year. The only change I made was the oil which was getting up towards 5000 miles and a new water pump which I doubt was affecting mileage. Maybe I should upgr...

Thanks for the input, I am getting rid of the cheapo tires on there now so since I was at it I thought I'd go wider for the added grip.

Wider Tires

Have a 1993 mx-3 with stock rims and the 185/65/14's. Does anybody know how wide a tire I can put on these stock rims without interference in the wheel wells ? I'm considering 215/60/14. Speedo will be off 1.8 mph at 60 mph which is acceptable but I'm not sure on the clearance and the lugging factor...

Just read the bonfire analogy and I can accept that. Are there any symptoms which can be attributed to a weak spark other than poor mileage ? My car starts fine cold or hot, and runs smoothly and consistantly at all RPM's hot or cold. One other thing you were talking about the sohc compared to the d...

Tunes.. One thing I dont get is the weak spark theory. Seems If the fuel detonates it detonates, and if the spark - whether weak or strong - does this it has done its job. I can see a partial (weak) burn if say your valves opened early or your rings were bad, but a weak burn due to a weak spark ?

Definitely post back if you discover anyway to boost that mileage, I will keep checking. I understand how the MPG's drop in cold weather but I wouldnt expect the 6 MPG I am experiencing. I found another thread on here a while back (may have been tunes67) which mentioned adjusting the timing to 12 BT...

In my case the cap is new, when I got the car in April I noticed after driving there was gas smell at the cap so I replaced it and the tank did have normal pressure build up after that. Only noticed recently the pressure release was gone, no gas smell in or out though which got me thinking about the...

Mine idles right around the recommended 750 rpm and smooth. I used to get 29 mpg (acceptable at 120,000 miles) then my timing belt slipped. I replaced the belt, double checking to insure I got it positioned correctly before putting the cover back on, then timed it at 10 btdc. Then I noticed bad mile...

I replaced my 1993 1.6 5spd with a 1991 323 tranny. Cost me 150.00 at the junk yard compared to 450.00 for a mx-3 tranny. 4th and 5th gears are slightly different but barely noticable. It fit perfect with no changes and there are LOTS of 323 trannies out there.
