Went to muffler shop and paid $45 to install(weld) new cat. Went right back to inspection place and guess what... HC reading was 11. Yeah, it was a bad cat. I think I'm finally done with all the problems with MX-3. BTW, my mechanic put synthetic oil without asking me and oil burning problem is gone ...

HC is usually showing how much oil is burning with your fuel. Check your spark plug gaps and make sure they are in spec. A catalytic converter that isnt functioning at full efficiency can also cause HC to read high (the cat isnt burning off all the bad stuff). HC = Hydrocarbons Cheers Tunes67 Tunes...

It gets worse if A/C is on. For example, I drop by grocery store, get out, start the car, turn on A/C and put my ...

Like I say to everyone, its not really good to switch to synthetic on a car with a good amount of miles, I mean your 240sx was probably in decent condition (Plus the motor is practically indestructable as I learned), I would lean more towards using 10w30 castrol GTX with one Lucas Oil Stabilizer. P...

around 140,000 and oil slowly burning sounds right, not really much you cna do for it except maybe put in lucas oil stabilizer next oil change. Thanks for the tip. I have another car which is S13 240SX and switched from Valvoline Maxlife(10w-30) to Mobil 1(10w-30) when she had 100,000miles on it. K...
