What's up everyone. My old door locks have been really difficult and broken several keys over the years and I gave up on locking it for a while. Then I found an MX in the junkyard with functional door locks, so I took them!

This lock loved breaking keys.

First things first, remove the door panel. There is a retaining clip for the window crank, and a couple screws in various places. Drivers side has 3 screws. One by handle/lock (Interior) one in the cup you pull the door closed with. (My cup is broken so I didn't have to do anything with this one.) And one in the door jamb.

Passengers side has 4. One by the handle/lock, one in the OH, Sh!T handle,

Again in the door jamb, as well as one hidden on the underside ov the arm rest part ov the door panel, behind a little square cover.

Just pop that little piece off with a screwdriver to gain access to the screw.

Now your door panel should come off really easy. Peel back the plastic on the corner closest to the top rear. There is also a little black cover you will remove to get to the nuts that hold the handle on.

Didn't think about a write-up until I was done, so I got no pix inside the door. But once you make it this far, you will see the 2 nuts holding the handle to the door. I have faith in you.

Once you remove the nuts, being careful not to drop them into the door, push the door handle out so you can access the lock cylinder. It is held in place with a retaining clip. Pry it off/back/out ov the way, to remove the lock cylinder.

You will have to get both sides free to remove the lock. There is also a little clip inside the door, where the lock cylinder attaches to the little bar that actuates the lock.

Just rotate to unclip, then pull the bar out.

Stick the "New" lock cylinder in the handle. Clip in place. re-attach the little bar, and clip it in place. Remount handle with the 2 nuts. Double check functionality. (Just in case) Then put the door back together.

Fun Fact: locks are color coded. white clip is passenger side. Peach (?) clip is driver side.

HATCH LOCK:

Also very easy. Remove trim pieces. (one screw each side, where the ropes from the trunk leaf go) Just pop them off. To remove the 3rd brake cover, twist the 2 tabs.

The rear trim piece has several plastic fasteners. I used my finger nails to pull the center piece and they came right out. (I used both index fingers, if that matters) Once you have all 5 out, give it a good tug and it should pop out.

NOTE: if you a have rear wiper, there are more plastic fasteners. 7 IIRC.

When looking up at the little window (Hatch open) on the RIGHT side, there is an access hole with a metal bracket. Pull it sideways (Right ---->) to release the rear lock cylinder. (Be careful not to cut the sh!t out ov your finger when it comes free) Maybe wiggle it? I opted to cut myself.

Push on the gray circle, it's the back ov the lock cylinder. It will probaby take a little effort as it probably hasn't moved in 20 years. Pop the new cylinder in, reattach the retaining bracket, (Works kinda like a brake line clip) then pop all the trim pieces back into place.

NOTE: use pliers to remove the metal clips from the body and reattach them to the trim piece to pop back on. Be careful not to drop any into the opening where the hatch strut mounts.

Presto! you may have 2 keys now, But you can lock your car again! CONGRATULATIONS!

I did a search a few years ago but didn't come up with much other than, the image has to be on the internet somewhere already..?
