I've been trying to figure out if the Koni inserts will fit into a tokico blue strut, but cannot for the life of me find any information about it. I would also rather not have to buy a set of junkyard struts if I don't have to haha

Has anyone ever attempted/tried this?

I can't seem to find anyone who has done it on a compatible car (ie escort, 323 etc.) but I figured someone else might have seen it done somewhere...

Basically I'd rather upgrade then move to a set of gr2s or pay just as much for a new set of blues

I can't cut them open and measure because I need it to DD, they just need to be replaced because they freeze whenever it gets below -20 celcius...

As an aside:
I'm debating coilovers, but I have concerns about the quality of Ksports/D2/XYZ etc. with respect to their reputation on other foums, especially in unfavorable winter (salty+cold) conditions... However it seems like almost everyone views them favorably here Maybe I should just suck it up and buy them

Inserts will require extensive modification of the shock housings regardless if you use your blues or get stock units. Even the stock units have a bump stop of sorts in the case that has to be removed so I would expect the blues to be the same way.

I favor my ksports but I also don't run them all year around. I switch them out during winter for Tokio blues and stock springs.

I would like to say bullsh*t but that would be counter productive and confrontative so I won't say bullsh*t. Koni's are awesome probably the best you can get for the money. I suggest you measure the diameter of your struts against stock struts and also measure the strut housing height. Installing the inserts is childs play and can be done with minimal effort. Follow the instructions. When you drill the hole in the bottom of your strut start with a small drill bit and work your way up to 1/2 inch. The adjustment is a matter of personal preference for your driving requirements. Maybe start with one full turn.

Like Dan said. It is super easy and you can do it with minimal tools.

I suggest using a small pilot bit in the base first then you can press out all of the fluid in the strut. then you just have to be careful to cut the top of the strut of as high as you can to make sure that Koni insert presses in properly. they have dimples towards the top to keep them centered in the strut housing. You can use a side grinder, a saw, or even a pipe cutter to take the top off. After that it is super simple. I would suggest strongly to use locktight on the base bolt.
