New Clutch Time, any suggestions?

My car is a 323 with a MX-3 driveline and a KLZE. I have an ACT stage one in there, it has served me well. My engine is stock with a CAI, headers and a 100hp nitrous kit. I was thinking about going with something other then an ACT this round. I didn't like how you had to modify the clutch pedal rod, and how even after, the engagement was really close to the floor.

Kudos on the 326. You've done some amazing things and it was fun to glance through your worklog.

What can anyone offer in terms of advice for a new clutch on your unique car?

All I can say is that I have a South Bend clutch - specifically a Rally series stage 1 that I don't think is sold anymore. However, I'll endorse the company and their current products because what I have has been great for daily driving and is more than adequate for the power of a rebuilt DE with a few bolt-ons. I think the South Bend clutch would even hold up to the occasional use of the nitrous that you have. If you still daily drive the car you'd be happy with a stage 1 from South Bend. If you're looking for mostly track use then someone else will hopefully add their experience.

I know Im running a Luk clutch in mine, works great and holds nice on my abused DE in the mx3. OE german equipment has served me well, although I did have to readjust the master cylinder push rod a few times as well.

Over the years Exedy and ACT have been acknowledged as excellent choices. I use to bring my clutch to a brake and clutch overhaul shop and it was super cheap compared to new. They machined the pressure plate and replaced the springs, glued and riveted the disk with new pads and supplied me with a new throwout bearing. About 1/3 the cost of new. I'd check that route out as well.

I've had a spec 2+ for years of 200+ whp with no problems or burning. Engagement is 1/8 inch between full on and off and is about 1.5 inches down from the top of the clutch pedal.

This is the reason I went for SPEC, could not find a bad review on them, with a lot of people saying that's what they will always & only use!

Did you have your stock flywheel surface ground before fitting, or have you a alu. flywheel?

I ran a bit of a hybrid on my 296whp turbo EGT.. Spec Stage3+ Full face carbon metallic disc with an ACT HD Pressure plate..

perfect pedal feel/height and it grabbed like a mofo even flat shifting @7500 RPM with the amount of power I had it never let me down. put about 20k hard miles on it, and its still going today with the new owner
