Why is there this metal looking hose attached to the power steering line?
Is there a special function ?
Doesn't seem to me it comes that close to the engine.
Anybody taken it off and ran into problems?

It protects the line from heat, but I would say you'd be fine without it.

Word. The exhaust is close by...but I don't think close enough to melt the hose.

Wont melt it, just dry it out faster and possibly cause boiling of your P/S fluid increasing wear to the pump and rack, leave it if you have it just my .02

Yeah It's not there to protect the hose it's there to protect the fluid. Muy Importante.
