250 Miles per tank....

Post by atx_mx3 »

It seem like it does not matter how I drive....220-250 a tank. I babied the hell out of it through the last tank..never revving past 4k and yet i still couldn't net better than 254 to a tank. I have replaced just about everything on this motor. It does not smoke, leak or consume oil. It has recently lost a little power with the addition of the knock sensor code. But even before the CEL was on I was still averaging 220 to a tank...

What are you getting fuel mileage wise?

what are you running for your ECU on the KLDE?

That is about what I get normally. 250 to 280 per tank which equates to about 25 to 28 MPG. I drive at 70mph most of the time and that sucks it down. I can get 30mpg IF i stay below 60mph. Thats with my ZE with KL36 ECU.

Check your tire pressure! I was only getting like 22mpg and it was a result of my tires being under inflated.

I get about 480km/300mi per tank in summer so you're not too too far off. check tire pressures, make sure the brakes aren't dragging. Lift each wheel off the ground and check the condition of wheel bearings and stuff. Make sure they spin really free.

You're only 10-20% low based on averages I've seen so it could just be something in the drivertrain.

Do you get that 480km on your ZE? I was able to get 450km once I put Amsoil in my ZE engine but before that it was like 380km. Now I'm not talking empty tank but almost on E.

How much fuel do you guys consider to be a "full tank"?

13 gallons should get you nearly 400 miles, or 645 kilometers...

topped off to BONE DRY, the first time I ever ran out of gas in my '92 was 407 miles exactly...

I used to get 230 miles before orange "low fuel" light turned on. I've done tune up in last year along with new O2 sensors and I've been getting 250sh. I usually fill up 9.0-9.5 gallons but car is supposed to be 13.2 gal tank but I've never tried running it out of gas just to see how many miles it will actually take to completely empty the tank.

I ran mine out unfortunately, my needle stuck right above the point where the light comes on... :(

I did find out that it took almost exactly 13.2 to fill though. At least we know that is accurate.

Most fuel I've ever been able to get into any of the MX-3's I've owned is about 44L or 11.6Gallons. That 500km tank was probably on about 42-43L of fuel.

Yep!^^^ me too. The entire fuel system is 13.2 meaning the lines, rails, filter and such.

400 miles hell I never got that in my RS the only MX3's I know that ever did that were SOHC B6's and they got almost 45mpg. I fill my car just when the light comes on usually as I commute now and it is almost exactly 10 gal every time. When I rod on it I get 230 to 250 miles and if I go easy I get almost 300. Now I am running a stock GS trans so when I swap to my other trans with the 626 5th gear it should allow my 70mph freeway driving to get better fuel economy and should get up into the 30's.

Like what was mentioned many things come into play especially since our cars are so light such as wheel barrings, tire pressure and such. The rims you are running and width of tires also is a factor. I am running very light wheels but I have a wide patch of tire on the ground 225/50/15's that vs a 205 and I would more than likely gain a few MPG if I switched. Plus I carry about a 100 lbs worth of tools in the back at all times on top of my spare tire. It all plays a little part.

I've been saving fuel receipts for about 2 years now and I average about 26mpg in summer...23 in winter.

Josh,
I have stock honeycomb wheels on my '92, with stock(205/55-15) tires at about 90% of their "max pressure" both in summer and winter.

I have no spare tire, jack, rear speakers(or mounting hardware), manual seatbelts, and a bit more. I estimate my car is ~100 pounds lighter than when I bought it, before my A/C and powersteering delete.

I'll weigh the car after I get it road worthy again...

I am quite sure.

My freeway mileage is terrible though, I've complained about this repeatedly on here! My highest freeway mileage was around 30...

Around town is a breeze, because I'm patient and look way ahead to time lights. It's been worse this past year though, but I was losing oil ridiculously fast... I hope to see 30 city with the G4 and proper tuning. :D
