KL swap, no idle! Out of ideas.

I am just finishing up a swap using a Millenia engine with KL31 heads, Millenia intake, 01 cams, KL02 VAF, EGR removed and blocked, K8 disty. The swap went reasonably well, with low mileage belt, tensioners, etc, all in proper time, I swear! It starts and runs.
However, there is NO idle, just spitting and misfire and loading up until it gets some throttle, clears out and runs very strong to the redline. From outside, it sounds like there is a major vacuum leak at the front (cam end) of the engine. I have checked it with a fine tooth comb, replaced gaskets, etc, but no apparent leak and still the same symptoms.
I am still using the K8 ECU until the chip for my KL07 arrives. All the threads say the K8 ECU will work but is not optimal. Nowhere does anyone suggest NO IDLE AT ALL! BTW, timing is about as right as I can get it considering the engine won't run under 1000 rpm, at all.
Any suggestions or troubleshooting tips would be highly welcome!
Thoughts: Injectors? Some hidden air passage? cam timing in spite of very careful assembly?

Which ECU are you using, if it's the K8 OBD1 ECU then you have to use the JE50 VAF.

what he said. K8 has to use the JE50 VAF until your KL07 comes in.

I will change back to the JE50. Thanks guys. Just by the way, I started to remove the injectors for a check, found one of the rail bolts WAY loose, and apparently (though I suppose I could have knocked it into the valley area) NO O-ring on the #1 injector. That might just be the major vacuum leak sound.
I'll keep this thread alive until everything is resolved, so if anyone else has any ideas, I'm all eyes!
Thanks again guys!

after much angst, reinstalled the KL01 VAF, chipped KL07 ECU. The car idles and runs now, so it seems I had a fulty stock KL07 chip.
Would you believe the radiator sub-tank (where the radiator cap goes) exploded! More later after that is all put right.
Thanks for the tips guys!

Does this only apply to the ZE?
Only reason I ask, Im running a k8 ECU with a KL02 VAF on a DE.

I wouldn't run that combination on any OBD1 MX-3. It'll work... but it's not ideal, how is your fuel economy?
Edited per Daninski's reminder ;D

The only K8 ECU you use a KL02 VAF on is on a 96+ with the KLZE.

290 to a tank..spirited driving. It ran a 15.0 on the JE50 and the next day it died. Im going back to the track tomorrow to run it on the KL02. Exact same set-up, tires, etc. We'll see if the numbers show.

Some people have ran it and liked the setup on an OBDI Mx-3, but again, it's not real, but shouldn't cause anything abnormal, historically speaking

It can be an auto, it doesn't need to be a 5-speed for the ECU or VAF

Won't it throw AT codes being auto? Or is there a separate TCM? There is a 94 auto DE in the yard close to my shop...

It will toss the ATX codes. but that wont really effect anything. Hell, all the Maf conversions everyone have done used a Millenia ECU which only came in ATX.

CEL's piss me off. I will keep looking for a 5 spd DE ecu. The car runs great, idles well and gets decent gas mileage.
