Weird new mod?

I caught up to an MX-3 in Eugene Oregon, and it had the strangest mod.. On each side, just above the corners of the tail lights, there were what looked like exhaust ports. There were 2 on each side, angled back, and about 1.5 inches each in diameter. They were screwed on in a way that warped the car's sheet metal, so it conformed to the base plate of the things. They looked burnished, like they were used. I assume they were screwed on for looks. The car had no other mods.
I just don't know if this is a thing. I tried to get a picture, but I couldn't.

Heheh. It was strange. The driver was Asian, so I thought it might be something like those ridiculous exhaust things they were doing.

Sounds like a ridiculous exhaust thing...
I've never heard of or seen such a weird trend.
Surely they wouldn't go through the trouble of routing exhaust like that, would they? I don't see a benefit to it, except being weird, lol

Jesse, you must seek this person out and get to the bottom on this. I leave it in your capable hands. Stepchyld, you are a old MX-3 member with far too few posts. You must correct this and the sooner the better. I have spoken.

lol, yes sir! -if explanation is requested as to my low post count, I will duly provide it. I hope to do worklogs of my history with MX3's soon as well.
Jesse, you know what to do, track down the Asian and find out why he did what he did. Use any legal means necessary, and any entertaining unnecessary (but legal) means, provided the complete tale is told to the community.
