Ok I've seen over the past year a lot of people repairing then painting there cars. Most jobs look pretty good some,,,not so much. I found this tutorial and most of the stuff I read is pretty good. For your dining and dancing pleasure, here it is, http://autofix.com.au/blog/how-to-re-paint-a-car :D

I would not follow their "bodywork" practices unless you've got a beater that you're trying to get rid of.

Ha Ha, can't argue with a professional. At least it gives people an idea. I plan to start my WRX if it stays warm, I got a dent to bang out and a few other dings to fix so any advise is always welcome. :D How many coats of clear does it usually take to get that deep shine I see on some cars?

As far as clear, it's not just coats, it's the quality of clear coat. That's why there's $50/gallon clear coat and there $200/gallon clear coat.
If you want nice gloss you have to wetsand/buff after you clear car. Starting with 1200 grit and going all the way to 2000-2500 but most shops will go only to 1500 grit, they're all about production.

Great thanks. They paint cars all the time, do insurance jobs etc so I would think they wouldn't use bottom of the barrel products. The shop is basically two older guys who only take on so much work, so they can control quality or so they say.
