I had a question

When i get back to the states in december i plan on getting a KLZE, would a mazdaspeed muffler for a K8 choke the klze? I would think it would be a little better the a stock MX-6 muffler?

Does that answer you're question?

Yeah they are different, I was going to buy the one on Ebay but checked the part numbers and it is for an RS. I debated cutting it apart and rebaffling it. But that is a lot to pay to do that. So I have changed the direction on what I wanted to do. the MX6 SM muffler will have to be modified, the hangers and the inlet pipe.

yeah i seen that one on ebay wow WAY too much for shipping the price of the actual muffler was a little steep as well but it is not for the V6 and i luckly found one for the k8 thats why i was asking if you could use it on a de or ze... but i guess not... i may just stay with the k8  although i dont want to :crying:

I dont see why not really, I would use it with a DE or ZE. from the pictures I have seen the K8 muffler should be the same di as the MX6 one, just different tip length and placement, as well as the placement of the inlet pipe. Truth is there are some killer things you could do to a K8 to boost up the base hp...

2.0 KFZE cams.. I have heard that you can swap many parts from the KF to the K8 like the IM. I have not compared them myself and I am basing this off of rumors but I am sure there are some performance options to be had there. The K8 can be stroked to a 2.3L rather easily... I would love to see someone take the time and build one up. you could just swap in the KF that would be cool all in its own, not many do.

On the muffler you can get them cheaper on the Yahoo auctions all I am really after is the tip though :)

i wish i could get on the yahoo auctions but the closest i can get is buying stuff from rupe on astinagt. and i will have to look into the different options you said besides just the normal de/ze swap :welder:

I'd chop the tip off an just use that too. I have a k8 ms catback in storage. Iirc ID was 2" and it is mild steel mostly though nice and thick. I'd consider running it now being as I've an exhaust cutout too but wouldn't fancy restricting it all the time.

Yeah, ZE/DE swap is the best bang for the buck, thats why most go with them but there are other options.

Marcdh - I dont think I would want a full 2" exhaust either. I have been looking at tips for a while and seems mazda had many sizes of them in these generations. I think first I will buy the G4 IM then a MS tip in the next few months :)

Your dump interests me. I was thinking about running an electric dump but hook it up to the 1st VRIS solenoid. and run two exhaust systems in tandem one a 2.5" straight pipe bypassing the cat and resonator and the other to the cat and res. and it would Y back into the system before the elbow at the fuel tank. Then when I hit a particular RPM it swaps over to the straight section and would remain open through the higher RPM range. I think this would help keep low end TQ and increase top end HP... Its a though I have been playing with.

But that takes me back to the MS muffler, they are not a free flowing chamber style muffler so I was thinking about cutting the top off and taking out the baffling system, then welding in a chambered style muffler, and welding the entire thing back up again, it would be just for aesthetics really, with better performance. IDK yet we will have to see in the next few months.

For what i've been told by those who have, it's not really economical.

TomAto.... Tomahto I say stroking is not as bad as some describe (and we have several threads on here that go on and on about it). Look at a motorcycle engine, they would be a good comparison to stroking your motor. yeah they wear a bit faster being stroked but they sure are a lot of fun. My ZX10 dyno'd at 157 HP to the rear wheel that's almost as much as the ZE in my car, and it is 1.5L smaller in displacement. There are some great N/A advantages to be had from stroking.

some of you stroking haters may flame this but really It was just a suggestion to maximize HP out of the K8 :)
