5th gear swap w trans in car
5th gear swap w trans in car
I would like to do a 5th gear swap that lowers my rpm on the highway, right now its a 3200 rpm at 65mph. Is this possible to do with the manual transmission still in the car? If so how hard is it and what is involved. I planned on changing the fluid in my trans anyway.
Re: 5th gear swap w trans in car
Yes a fluid change and 5th gear swap could be done handily, all you need is a combination wench, ball bearings and a little Preston. I'll find a link to the post for you.
I found this using the 'Search' and we expect you to do the same. I'll see if the write up is here for the V6 trans. http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.ph ... eplacement
The info you need is here as well, just read about 5th gear. http://www.mx-3.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.ph ... ll#p402218
More good info to change 5th. http://forums.probetalk.com/showthread.php?t=1701282377

I know you believe that you understand what you think I said but I'm sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Re: 5th gear swap w trans in car
Bleeeehhh. I'm still thinking hard on this myself. I'd like a slightly taller 1st gear, and a noticeably taller 5th. I don't want to mess with 2nd, 3rd, and 4th though. That means final drive replacement won't make me happy by itself. The 5th gear swap is straight forward, the links Dan posted will serve you well.
