Does any one know if the 93 probe shocks will fit a 93 mx?
Or is their any other ajustable shocks out their for our cars?

I doubt the probe struts will fit, I believe people used to use ford escort struts. Just look on here I'm sure you'll find the answers. I have kyb gr2 struts and they work fine.

No, they have a different width spindle and the strut top doesn't work out without some grinding.

Only adjustables I know of are Ksports and D2's. There may be others by now though.

You'll need some pretty good performance struts for a 4" drop, that's too much for even the KYB's, so yes, you'll blow your stocks again

OK,

There are shops out there that will do this and I am sure you can find a local machine shop to do it but some who go real low will get the strut chopped off, re machined, and threaded. One could chop 3 or 4 inches off of the top and that would give you what your looking for.

Truth is you should do this with any strut when you lower your car beyond 2" IMO

You're going to want to look for adjustable struts. Don't cut struts, there's no point to it. With the kyb gr2s and eibachs, I can scrap my underbody just driving straight down an incline. To me that's low enough.

adjustable struts are adjustable in their damping rate, not at what magnitude of compression they operate. Even adjustable struts aren't good for a big drop.

What do you mean don't cut the struts, there's not point? Thats an excellent idea. A strut is only be designed to work in a certain magnitude of compression, and if your springs operate at that lower level, the strut is working in a range it isn't designed for. Cutting the top moves the strut back into its operating range.

I had never considered it before, but if I ever buy new struts for my summer car I'll get 1.5" chopped off, which matches my drop. Perfection. Thanks Josh.

every now and then I do have a decent idea or two :)

Actually it is pretty common in the Low rider world. That is the ONLY reason to go to ZX2 struts is that they are matched to the ride height of the Eibach springs, slightly shorter than the OE MX struts. I believe the Koni's are a little shorter as well.

It would never be a bad idea if you were lowering your car. THE LAST thing you want is your strut bottoming out, nothing will blow it faster.

Let me know how cut struts work, in Minnesota, you're struts will blow easily once you hit a 2 feet deep pot hole. lol. If your roads are better in your state you go ahead with that. I'll stick to my eibachs and gr2s. Sucks climbing up the driveway already, plus it's only like a 1 1/2" opening from tire to fenders.

Like those A-Pillar bars ;)

Cut shocks seems like a really good idea. Cut springs, that's a whole different story

Nice!..

Jamestakay I think you are misunderstanding. He dropped his car 4" and he keeps blowing struts, it is because they are bottoming out. If he hit a 2' pot hole it would have the opposite affect on the strut. If the strut rod gets the top cut off it gives the strut some more leeway with being lowerd this much, it would resolve his issue. By reducing the rod length it does not mean you are lowering your car more.

word. good luck let us know how the cut strut works and how long they last. plus let me know how much it costs you to have them cut, etc.
